About this site
By Simon Thomas • Sep 23rd, 2008 • Category: Welcome!Welcome to the EFL page of my website, which started as a place to share useful resources I found on the internet. I have since added some lesson ideas of my own, and many that others have shared with me either at St Giles College (where I teach) or via resource books and articles.
Navigating via the sidebar on your left
Lesson ideas are grouped into two broad categories: Using Coursebooks Creatively; and Creating Lessons from Scratch. You can also search for keywords using the search box (top right, under the title), or click on a word or phrase in the tag cloud on the left.
What I’d like from you
All I ask is that, for every few lesson ideas you use from this site, you upload one of your own. This should help to keep this blog ticking over with new ideas. Please check out the guidelines below for further information – there are only five, but they’re important.
I hope you enjoy using this EFL resource, and that you find it easy to use and to navigate.
With best wishes,
Simon Thomas,

POSTING GUIDELINES:
Don’t worry – there are only five:
In general:
- Anyone can comment, but you have to register and log in to be able to post a lesson idea (registration is really easy, and can be done via the sidebar on the left).
- By posting a lesson idea or plan, you agree that other teachers can use it and share it freely, and that this site’s administrator can choose whether or not to host it.
- In order to post, you should be a practicing EFL teacher, or at least have experience of teaching EFL.
When writing ideas and lesson plans:
- If appropriate, please write your contributions in the following format: materials needed first; then any pre-lesson preparation; then the lesson itself. This will help keep everything organised. An example lesson plan is here.
- Please choose an appropriate category for your lesson idea (either “Creating Lessons From Scratch” or “Using Coursebooks Creatively”) and add any “tag” words you think will help users find your plan. Many useful tag words have already been added – please use these, if they’re appropriate.
P.S.: If you get stuck or have a problem…
The program I use on this blog is called WordPress; I chose it because it’s well-regarded and well-documented, and you should find it very easy to use. However, if you have any problems saving or publishing your ideas, please either try the WordPress support page, or email me.
Thanks and best wishes,
Simon
